  • here is a bit of a story I'm writting

    *= translation at bottom

    Chapter 1: Secrets

Secrets were always buried within the family. There are things that mami never allowed us to say. There were different secrets, different types of secrets. Ones you can tell * tía Carmen and family that lived in America, but you would never dare to mention to family back in our country. Then there are secrets that are harder to keep. Secrets that lay heavy and dead in my chest, ones that tía carmen would never know.

Those were the ones that killed us.

Those were the ones that brought us together.

Those were the ones that left a trail.

Those were the ones that would hold us down.

People never knew exactly, tía carmen could only guess but she would never really know. But we know if we never give a secret a proper burial but instead we drag the corpse and stick it in the closet you’re bound to smell it. People will notice there’s rot in the house. And everyone knows that rot and death will bring flies…

And we’ll always have flies in the house

  • I ate my thanksgiving dinner in a fancy hotel lobby....

we just crossed the border and we had no where to go. Alishia and I

walked past the street venders that where across the border. We were

dragging our suitcase trying to look for a park where we could sit down

and think of what we where going to do next, to see if we where going

to stay the night there or go to dallas that night. I told her to sit on a bench

with our stuff and watch it while I'll go and try to find what to do. While I

was gone someone parked in front of Alisha and gave a to go meal with a

orange soda and then screamed "happy thanks giving." It turned out that

it contained turkey, mash potatoes, and corn. So we decided to take our

stuff to the hotel right across the street.

We ate our Thanksgiving dinner in the lobby of a fancy hotel.
